Cars vs. Bears, Jasper National Park, 1955.

Oof! Last across the line, this week! Here are some great oldies a fabulous '50s road trip through JNP. Bears were smaller then - if I saw a baby bear I'd start poopin' because nothing is more dangerous than momma bear. As they say.

Looks smelly.
Up a tree!
Hitching a ride!
Such nice fur.
Awww, what a nice little fella.

This is seriously a mother bear watching her two li'l babies approach and stand up on a car. Unreal.
The best, I love the car and the streak of light on the left. Poor guy looks a little sad, though.

The Red Horse Flies at Midnight.

I'm sorry! I've been swamped! I have some nice material in the pipe that will hit the press in a couple of days, but in the meantime take a look at this horse and observe SOPA awareness day.

Leaping over hurdles... it's just that time of year I guess.

1955, Tournament of Roses Parade.

Everyone loves a parade, and we at the archive are no exceptions. Here's some highlights from a rainy January 1st 1955 in Pasadena. Let's dive in, because (as is the theme of the barbershop float) "I need your head in my business". Yeah... get your head in there.

Let's start at the beginning!

Practically like being there right? I skipped over some of the less good ones. I like how floats use clever ways to conceal the vehicle within. I also like to see people miserable in the wet, lined up along streets. A perfect day!

Photos for a reduced-calorie diet.

Ah January: the month of big goals. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that most of us resolve (even secretly, even if we defiantly declare we gave up resolutions last year as a resolution) to lose weight, or get in shape, or be more healthy. No problem, The Ferrous Archive is here to help you meet your goals!

The following slides came embedded in some very innocent images of holidays and family, which made them weirder. So if you need a little something to bring to mind to help quell your appetite (that has no doubt grown gargantuan), conjure up these images in your mind's eye. It's not really that these disorders of the skin are particularly extreme, we can certainly find much worse examples elsewhere within a few keystrokes - but there's something unnerving about the way these photos have been taken. Enjoy, in that voyeuristic way you always do...

Tortured lady-arms. She dressed pretty just for this occasion.
This man's skin looks fine to me, but what lies beneath the mask?
Surely your heart goes out to this guy. The shine makes my skin crawl, and the haircut is cruel.
